Frequently Asked Questions

Wha Is ABA?

ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a scientific approach to behavior founded by BF Skinner and Ivarr Lovaas. ABA therapy uses evidenced based interventions to support individuals with autism and related disorders. Clinicians collaborate with families to create strategies and goals to provide support with communication, self help skills, social skills, reduce challenging behaviors while reinforcing positive behavior.

What is a superbill?

A superbill is an itemized receipt that details the services provided. It is presented to your insurance provider so that you may receive reimbursement.

Does my child or loved one need a diagnosis for services at Heartstrong?

Heartstrong does not require a diagnosis to receive ABA services. But we reccomend you check with your insurance provider as this may affect coverage, as many insurances require a diagnosis to begin ABA services.

After ABA will my child’s autism be cured?

There is no cure for Autism, nor is ABA intended to be one. At Heartstrong we want to celebrate each individual’s difference and provide the care and support needed to thrive in any environment. We provide strategies to encourage and foster the growth of each individual and we support and celebrate what makes each individual unique.

What are each clinician's qualifications?

Services are provided by Board Certified Behavior Analysts. All BCBA’s have completed at least
a master’s degree, have completed certified course work in behavior analysis and completed at
least 1500 supervised fieldwork hours, along with passing the national certification exam. In
most states, state licensure is required to practice as a Behavior Analyst, however licensure is
not currently required in California.
